Tire size question

My dad in law gave me his 2012 GMC Club Cab 2WD WT with like 120k miles on it, and he mentioned he had just put on new Crosswind A/T 245/70R17 110S tires on OEM steel rims. The door sticker calls for 110T tires on 17.5" rims, but the tires say not to mount on 17.5" rims. I'm a bit confused, can anyone explain whats going on here?

I think its just a simple mix up, your rims are probably 17", not 17.5". The tires youve got are made for 17" rims and warn against using 17.5", which are totally different. Check the rim size stamped on the wheel just to be sure, but it sounds like youre good.

yeah, the door sticker is probably wrong. The 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 came from the factory with 17" steel rims, not 17.5". I'm certain that the FIL's tires and the rims are both 17", and the sticker is a misprint or has been replaced with the wrong one. OP should confirm the rim size by looking for a stamp on the back of the wheel
