ive been thinking of upgrading my tires to 285s from 265 stock 17". question is, wont i have to worry about clearances especially since i tow often and i want more grip on pavements. thanks in advance

285s should fit but might rub a bit on full turn or bumps. if u tow a lot, def check ur suspension n maybe get a leveling kit. more grip is good tho. good luck!

The 285/70r17 is a super common upgrade and fits perfect with no rubbing even under load, so you won't have any issues with clearance.
You'll actually notice a better stance and more contact patch!
As for grip, look at a good all-terra
in tire with a solid tread block, like FG KO2s, Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws, or Toyo Open Country AT3s.
Those are all popular choices that do great on pavement and will handle towing without any issues.

It's kind of absurd that people still upgrade tires on modern trucks without manufacturers designing stock setups to handle slightly wider tires, like they assume everyone only drives stock and never tows seriously

I agree that this common upgrade for a Silverado 2500. going from 265s to 285s will give your truck a much more aggressive stance
remember that a 285 is both wider and a little taller than a 265. The extra width will give you more contact patch, which is great for grip on pavement and stability when towing
