2024 RST AC compressor humming at idle

My 2023 RST has around 500 miles on it, and I'm noticing a humming sound from the AC compressor while idling. It fades once I'm moving, but it's pretty noticeable at stoplights. I never had this issue with my old Sienna... :( Is this normal for the newer compressors or is it worth driving 3 hours to the dealer?

I experienced something similar with my 2022 model. That quiet hum is actually pretty normal with the newer variable compressors, they keep running even when the engine is idling. It usually fades away as the RPMs increase. Unless it starts getting louder or impacts the cooling, there's really no need to worry for a 3-hour trip. You might just want to make a note of it for your first service visit.

I have a 2023 and someone asked me about this issue and I said I didn't have it, but I'm the kind of person that plays music so there's no way to tell if it's there. Well i tested it and yes, it's there, and I took it do the dealer and they seemed a bit confused at first but said it's all good. With that said, they told me to keep an eye on things and if it doesn't cool as efficiently as before then it could be a problem.

Yeah, that lines up with what most owners are hearing on the newer models. As long as it’s just a steady hum at idle and the cooling performance stays solid, it’s generally considered normal behavior for the variable compressors. I’d do the same thing mentioned above, keep an ear on it and bring it up at your first service visit unless it gets louder or starts affecting AC performance.
